Carry On Learning

In the event of a school closure or your inability or your instructor’s inability to attend class, communication with your instructors will be crucial for exploring alternatives for participating in their class.

Here are the top five things you may need to successfully participate in your courses: clear communications, internet and device access, knowledge of Canvas, familiarity with cloud resources, and a commitment to spend time in your online classes daily.

Communicate and Collaborate

Contact your instructors via SJNY email or look for communication from your instructor.

Internet and Device Access

If a face-to-face class is changed to be offered in an online format, consider the following to be prepared.

Canvas

If your instructor is using Canvas for class sessions, access your course(s), by logging into the MySJNY Portal and select the Canvas link located under SJC Applications area.  The Dashboard (main page) should contain your current courses; however, clicking on the Courses button will direct you to a full list of your courses.

Support for Canvas

If you have an issue or concern with Canvas, consider the following resources:

Mobile Access to Canvas

Canvas Student: Canvas Student allows students to access their courses and groups using a mobile device. Students can submit assignments, participate in discussions, view grades and course materials. The app also provides access to course calendars, To Do items, notifications, and Conversations messages. Download the Canvas Student app on Android and iOS devices.
